Past Heart of the Horse galas
Since 2009, we’ve been celebrating our horses at Heart of the Horse, SAFE’s annual gala event. Here is a look back to past Hearts:
The generosity of our guests at Heart of the Horse 2018 exceeded all expectations, with a record breaking $165,000 raised for the horses at SAFE. The weather wasn’t what we’d hoped for so this year’s photos are limited, but please enjoy the video presented at this year’s auction to celebrate 2017 with our guests.
Heart of the Horse 2016 was our second year at The Golf Club at Newcastle, and once again, we were blessed with beautiful weather for a lovely evening on the terrace. Heart 2016 brought home nearly $120,000 for the horses of SAFE.
Our first year at the gorgeous Golf Club at Newcastle! Heart 2015 was a record breaking event, thanks to the tireless efforts of our auction committee and the estimable Graham Crow, who joined the team as our auctioneer. Heart 2015 brought home more than $100,000 for the SAFE horses, and was an unforgettable evening for all of us!
Heart of the Horse 2014 took place on February 7, 2014. This was our second year holding this event at the beautiful Chateau Ste Michelle Winery in Woodinville. It was a tremendous evening for SAFE, with great food and wine, wonderful friends, and amazing generosity. Even the sudden onset of an unexpected snowstorm could not dampen the evening’s glow. At the end of the night, we raised $65,000 for the horses of SAFE including $21,000 during the Raise The Paddle to fund our veterinary services program.
Heart of the Horse 2013 was a night that we will never forget. Held on February 16, 2013, the event was held for the first time at the beautiful Chateau Ste Michelle winery in Woodinville. We had a wonderful evening that exceeded our wildest expectations in terms of fundraising for the horses of SAFE. Our preliminary totals indicate that we raised more than $43,000, including $15,400 for the SAFE Veterinary Care Fund!
The third annual HeART of the Horse was held on May 12, 2012 at the Hollywood Schoolhouse in Woodinville WA. We stepped things up this year, turning HeART into a full scale evening event, with a catered dinner, a silent auction, an equestrian fashion show put on by Olson’s Tack Shop, and a live auction. The event raised over $17,000 for SAFE.
After the success and popularity of the HeART of the Horse Benefit Art Show & Auction in 2009, it was decided to try it again in 2010. HeART of the Horse II took place on October 22, 2010 with the sponsorship of Museum Quality Framing who not only hosted the event at their Bellevue store but went above & beyond by providing signs, marketing and all of the location preparation/restoration.
We had many returning HeARTists while getting to meet several new participants. This time we added the fun of making it a juried event and awarded horse-show style ribbons for first, second and third place in Photography, Watercolor, Canvas & Sculpture as well as a Best-of-show High Point Ribbon.

HeART of the Horse—an art show and auction benefiting SAFE—was born when (then) SAFE Volunteer Coordinator Jet Parrett was contacted by artist Maeve Harris about donating a painting for a possible fundraiser. That one donation planted the seed that grew into an art show that was supported by several local & nationally known artists and photographers. It was held on April 5, 2009 at Abbey Ballroom in Tacoma WA. The event featured catered hors d’ouvres, a no-host bar, live musical entertainment, and a painter on site whose portrait of Honeycutt was live-auctioned at the end of the event. HeART of the Horse raised close to $5,000 for SAFE.
